Looking Toward Holy Week

Lent is a holy season of spiritual preparation for Easter. We continue Wednesday Night Suppers starting at 5:15 p.m. with ministries for all ages at 6:00. We continue Sunday night communion at 5:00. The outdoor prayer trail is open with “Stations of the Cross” and a printed prayer guide is available at the trail head. We are looking forward to these Holy Week ministries:

Palm Sunday with Visual Artist Krel Buckalew
March 28 at 8:30 and 10:45
Children’s processional, drama, and art bring us into Holy Week.

Maundy Thursday Seder – April 1 at 6:00 p.m.
Reenactment of the Passover meal when Jesus instituted Communion. The Eucharist will never be the same once you experience it around the table as the disciples did! Family-friendly, hands-on worship at the table including a Passover feast. Bring a pot-luck dish or two (no pork or leavened bread, please!).

Good Friday Service – April 2 at 7:00 p.m.
A service of light and darkness entitled “The Way of the Cross” designed by Nylea Butler-Moore. Choir, readers, and candle bearers will help us experience the crucifixion of Christ. This powerful service ends in darkness and silence.

Easter Sunrise Service & Breakfast – April 4 at 6:30 a.m.
Outdoors in front of the church. Come as you are for a time of welcoming Easter light with singing, scripture, morning message, and communion. Bring a breakfast dish!

Easter Morning Services – 8:30 & 10:45 a.m. (Sunday School at 9:45)
Arrangements have been made with the Providence School for secure use of their parking lot for overflow parking.

Prayers for the Madison Community

Our prayers and support go out to those affected by the tragic and senseless shootings recently at Discovery Middle School and UAH. Our pastor wrote a column for the Faith & Values Section of the Huntsville Times, which came out on the day of Todd Brown’s funeral and the day of the shootings at UAH. May it help us find comfort and hope during these trying times. It can be found at “How Will We Walk Through This Tragedy?”

The building is approaching completion! Perhaps you can celebrate by showering the church with a gift of equipment or furnishings. The trustees have approved a “Wish List” of items that are needed to make the transition. It works very much like a Gift Registry for a wedding. Here are instructions:

The Gift Registry including item details is posted in the hallway at church. A copy for reference is at www.graceumchsv.org/wishlist .
There is one designated fund, the “Wish List Fund,” for receipts toward all items. Checks should be made to “Grace UMC” and marked “Wish List.” It is the responsibility of the donor to use the Gift Registry to clarify what your gift goes to (rather than marking your check). Partial gifts toward expensive items may be accepted. Unspecified gifts and funds left after needs are met will be used for remaining items on the list.
